Fundamental Surgery is a software simulation system that can be downloaded directly to your chosen hardware. We support a wide range of off-the-shelf hardware which is readily available and easy to set up.

The basic requirements are three components:

A PC or Laptop

With a suitable processor and graphics card

A VR Headset

Either Microsoft compatible device, Oculus Rift or HTC Vive

Haptic Arms

You will need two Geomagic haptic arms

Hardware Specifications

PC / Laptop

  • Minimum core i5 4590 processor, recommended core i7
  • Minimum 16Gb RAM
  • Minimum Nvidia Geforce GTX1080 GPU or above
  • 1 x HDMI cable and 1 HDMI to DVI cable (1 HDMI cable on a laptop)
  • 6 x USB 3.0 ports (3 on a laptop)
  • Windows 10

VR Headset

  • Microsoft VR Devices (Dell Visor, Lenovo Explorer…)
  • Oculus Rift or Rift S, or
  • HTC Vive and Audio Strap, Vive Pro

Haptic Arms

  • 2 x Geomagic Touch units


Some clients prefer to use a height adjustable desk to create a comfortable operating height for surgeons using the haptic arms. Others prefer to use an adjustable monitor stand or laptop riser to raise up the haptic arms. Whatever works for you!
